Energy storage with hydrogen on construction equipment machine
Construction equipment machines will see a future trend of electrification as emission legislations are becoming stricter and efficiency demand increases.
Due to the size of Volvo machines a complete electrification with batteries is hard to achieve. Therefore hydrogen fuel cells could have a potential with its higher energy density.
Handling hydrogen is challenging and a good understanding of on board storage features and needed functions are important in order to industrialize the technology
Based on collected data of the total energy consumption of a construction equipment machine, define the amount of hydrogen that would need to be carried in order to cover the expected time of operation.
Define the size and solution of hydrogen storage at machine level.
Based on existing standards choose the most suitable fueling interface for the application.
Work include a literature study, design solutions and through selected modelling methods verify that the design is feasible.
The work should be documented in a report and a oral presentation performed.
We believe that a proper profile is that you study a master’s degree within product development or mechanical engineering and that your thesis should be at 30 credits.
