ACCELERATE PGM setup and strategy for the future

ACCELERATE Thesis program
We are now launching ACCELERATE, a new thesis program within Volvo Group in Sweden, which offers an excellent way to build relationships for the future.
You will be part of building tomorrows innovative transport solutions together with teams of passionate people and get the opportunity to combine theory with practice. For the program participants we can offer you to write a Master or Bachelor thesis and grow with us through product experience sessions and development activities.
You apply by filling in your personal details in the system and attach your resume. We also want you to attach your personal cover letter where we would like you to tell us why you are interested in joining the program and write your thesis for The Volvo Group. If you are two students who want to apply together, please upload both resumes and a common cover letter.
Group Trucks Purchasing is a passionate team of approximately 1200 people located on all continents globally, provides competitive advantages to the Volvo Group by selecting high performing suppliers to deliver the best possible products and services that add real business value for the truck brands of the Volvo Group.
Thesis Background
We would like you as a student to investigate PGM material (Platinum Group Metals), one of the most expensive material used in automotive industry. You will have the opportunity to interact with both engineering and business stakeholders, from Volvo and suppliers. You will have the possibility to run business cases with high commercial stakes and you will work around some society topics, relative to emissions control and raw material availability. This is also a unique opportunity to create connections and network inside a global company!
The aim of the study will be to investigate on PGM material, including:
  • Role of such material in a product, alternative material and design thinking to reduce usage
  • Mining extraction (sustainability concerns for working conditions, scarce resources, etc.)
  • Supply chain players on the market, transformation step in production, etc.
  • Financing & purchasing model pros & cons (direct buy, hedging, intermediate buy, fluctuation protection)
  • Recycling (players on the market, supply chain, benefits, etc.)
Educational background for student:
Master degree, either in Purchasing/ Business area or Chemistry. Does it sound interesting? If so, apply before October 20th!
