Description of thesis work
The roll stiffness is one of many important features to ensure a safe and efficient transport. In the rear suspension the main roll stiffness is coming from one or several stabilizer bars.
In certain truck applications there is a need to vary the roll stiffness of the truck. At fully loaded truck the stiffness needs to be high to prevent the truck from rolling over. At unloaded the high stiffness can prevent the truck from getting the needed traction when driving off road. This is a typical situation for a timber truck. The loaded timber results in a high center of gravity that is causing high roll moments driving at curvy roads. When unloaded it needs to reach the timber loading site often located at the end of a badly prepared road. In the current truck the roll stability is constant. The project aims to develop a concept where it can be actively varied and a rough idea of a concept exists but needs to be developed further.
To develop this concept a wide range of tools is needed ranging from finite element analysis, FEA, multidisciplinary optimization, MDO, and design in CAD.
