Position Title: Director: Tender Business
The main purpose of the job is selling of Trucks and Soft products to the State through networking at all levels with relevant government departments (Government Departments, Municipalities and Parastetals e.g. Eskom) and representing the Volvo Group Southern Africa Brands (UD Trucks and Volvo Trucks). To be the face and main line of contact of the Volvo Group SA with National Treasury in SA, and to establish and maintain a strong working relationship with the above stakeholders. To at all times adhere to Company Code of Conduct, the relevant Country regulations with high levels of integrity.
Reporting: The role will report to the Managing Director: UD Trucks
To provide market intelligence in respect of the tender business and recommend future strategies and sales plans.
To identify and maintain current and new business opportunities within Government Departments; nationally, provincially and local municipalities as well as the various parastetals.
To identify strategic social responsibilities in line with Government programs at a high level such as; Director General, MEC as well as Mayoral level.
To obtain the advertised tender document and spec the vehicles according to the required applications and quantities prescribed.
To ensure that UD Trucks and Volvo Trucks can comply with all terms and conditions of the tender requirements.
To submit tender within the prescribed period.
To manage the sales process to ensure on time delivery.
Collaboration with internal and external parties within the supply chain.
To support Company pricing policy at all times.
To identify and actively drive potential sales opportunities.
Updating Government officials (Fleet Managers) regarding new technology and modified specifications within our model range.
To ensure product and services are supported in a good manner. To ensure customer uptime.
To align quotes to UD Trucks and Volvo Trucks business plan parameters.
Compilation of costing sheets to the Finance Department for accruals and approvals.
To ensure all outstanding payments are made timeously to UD Trucks, Volvo Trucks, local suppliers and dealers.
To represent UD Trucks and Volvo Trucks externally in a professional and ethical manner, to establish and maintain relationships with new and existing clients.
To build and maintain relationships with all the various departments within UD Trucks and Volvo Trucks to support the product in all aspects.
Education & Job Experience
Must have a Marketing or Sales Diploma / Degree
Preferably a Technical Qualification
Must have a minimum 5 yrs experience in commercial vehicle industry
Experience in dealing with government departments
Experience in interpreting the requirements of Tender documents and related administration
Job Knowledge & Skills
Good understanding of the trucking industry;
Understanding of Government Procurement policies
Accurate understanding of specified applications;
Good understanding of sales environment;
Technical and product knowledge (desirable);
Financial acumen to structure deals on complete vehicles
Good communication Skills; (verbal & written)
Time Management Skills
