Prep and Finishing Technician

Under the direction of the Volvo Operations Concept:
  • Performs work according to SOP (Standard Operation Procedure)
  • Performs Autonomous maintenance
  • Performs quick kaizens
  • Takes other assignments, according to Star point concept
Core Responsibilities:
  • Cleans and prepares components for painting to include steam cleaning and masking as required
  • Paints components, decals, labels and prepares for storage or shipment
  • Paint room and equipment maintenance and housekeeping
  • Manages inventory of painting supplies
  • Services and maintains paint booth, equipment and disposal of all materials
  • Aesthetic quality of finished goods and shipping stands

Skills and Knowledge:
  • Volvo Production System/Toyota Production System a strong advantage
  • Lean manufacturing a strong advantage
  • Basic and specific computer skills
Minimum Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50lbs occasionally
  • Trained in paint booth operation and safety
  • Operate forklift and shop equipment
  • Professional communication presence
  • Understand and embrace concepts of better practice and continuous improvement
  • Protective clothing and mask required when painting
  • Safety glasses required while steaming and blowing parts
  • Safety precautions to be taken around shop equipment, special tools, hazardous materials, forklifts and overhead cranes
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance
  • Safety shoes required at all times
  • Special attention to noise levels, hearing protection required in specific areas or operations
  • High level of alertness at all times
