Master thesis – Volvo Group Connected Solutions
As you can imagine, keeping track of 1 000 000 connected assets rolling around the world is indeed a challenge. Now ponder, that vehicles in a few years will be autonomous – and you’ve got the challenge of your life. Our Technology team manages the development and maintenance of our global connectivity platform.
We are now looking for Master Thesis students in the Technology function in Volvo Group Connected Solutions. We are using the latest Java technologies delivering a very modern microservice based service platform hosted in the cloud. A part of what we do is to develop services for organizing your fleet with all the users, drivers and vehicles and for provisioning the proper connectivity services to them. One of our particular challenges is data inconsistency. We have to synchronize data between many separate systems, and with Volvo being a large company this means that the systems are developed and maintained by different parts of Volvo who all differ somewhat in ways of working.
Thesis questions and expected outcome
We would like the students to study ways to detect data inconsistencies earlier, and develop a method and a tool to warn us so that we can take corrective actions before the problem reaches our customers. The students would review different technologies for detecting data inconsistencies, select one approach and validate the efficiency of it. As output we would like to have a proof of concept showing the possible impact on current data quality and performance.
We are also open for the students to come with own ideas about what to do and how to frame the thesis work.
Competence Profile & Qualifications
For this Master Thesis we put high focus on your collaborative skills and that you are self-driven and curious, to successfully be able to plan your work, execute and follow-up on that plan.
Students should come from the area of Computer Science and Engineering, preferably from a university in our vicinity. Java programming skills are preferred.
Education level: Master of Science
Number of students: Preferably two (2). We find that when working in pair you secure a better result and personal development.
Start date: 2020-01-13
Location: The position is based at Lindholmen in Gothenburg, Sweden.
